How to Know if Your Child is a Hacker?

This was referenced today on twitter. (I tried to go back and see who had referenced it, but alas… their twit was lost in the sea of ideas that is twitter. Here’s the crazy article referenced in the video.

MVP Summit 2008

MVPSummit08Header

This week I’m in Seattle for the Microsoft Global MVP Summit. I’m having a great time up here meeting with the product teams and other MVPs from across the globe. Way too many incredible people to mention them all here.  It’s been fantastic and exhausting at the same time!

If you’re on twitter… you can follow along with the #mvp08 hashtags.

FireFox2 vs Internet Explorer 7

A couple of days ago I made a post about Adobe.TV and I thought that it looked fine (IE)

blog_IE_Arrow
(Looks good - Internet Explorer 7)

Then I opened it today in FireFox2

blog_FF_Arrow
(Oh Noes! - FireFox2 - not so good on the eyes…)

Oh well… next I’ll have to go install FireFox3 and IE8.

Featured on Adobe.TV and xTrain.com

Update: I had to swap out the “embedded” video for a image with a link because of because of the differences between Internet Explorer and Firefox. I’ll post more on that later.

This is *very* exciting! I know that I talked about it the other day, but just to make things easier, here is one of the videos that I did for xTrain directly emended from Adobe.tv.

New “American” Idol in Japan… Japanese Idol?

This is actually from a while ago… but considering that I lived in Okinawa for 3 years in the 80’s… I couldn’t help but post this.

Visual Studio 2008 Dallas Launch - Interview with Microsoft TechNet Presenter, Keith Combs

Tuesday was the Official Microsoft Launch of Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 in Dallas. It was great. I got to hang out with many of my fellow MVP’s as well as people like Mark, Keith, Phil and Rachel (also Jason, Toi, Scott… and many more!) at the “ask the experts” table (which Microsoft *incorrectly* labeled the MVP - Microsoft Valued Partners booth - I guess even they have too many TLA’s!). I missed the Keynote, but I did get to see Chris Koenig present at another session on developing web applications with VS 2008 and he did a great job.

While walking through the halls I did run in to Keith Combs, a friend of mine from Microsoft - he presents all over the region at TechNet events. (think MSDN Event for MCSE’s - if that helps.) Keith has a very active blog and interviewed me for that. You can see the interview on Keith’s blog.

Adobe TV and Adobe Media Player launch with xTrain content

+

xTrain is a super high quality, web based, training company focused on designers that I have created a “Developer Designer Zen” series with. Yesterday they launched a ton of content featured on Adobe’s new Adobe TV. Here’s a clip from the release:

“Adobe just announced Adobe TV and Adobe Media player today. Adobe TV is your on-line source for expert insight and inspiration. Feed your passion for Adobe products with insider tips, innovative techniques, and behind-the-scenes tours. Get to know Adobe personalities by tuning in to Russell Brown Photoshop Laboratory.”

I’m very excited to be a part of this launch and to be featured along side some of the best UX presenters and trainers in the industry! Here’s the “official” digg link

and we’re back… sort of. :)

You may have noticed that my blog has been down for a couple of weeks now. (at least, I hope that someone besides my wife noticed!) Yes, my contract with Webhost4life was up, and rather than re-live some of my OutOfMemoryException errors that I was having with them I decided that it was time to search out a new host. In addition to that, I had been frustrated with some of the limitations of the DotNetNuke blogging module. It has served me well, but with the lack of support for common things like tagging, tag clouds and an implementation of the Meta Blog API I decided that it was time to look elsewhere.

So, I’m trying out Wordpress. Although I’m not completely certain that this is where I’ll end up. It made sense to go here first as a blogging platform… they have a great import/export feature (and just about everyone and their mother supports an import or conversion form the Wordpress format) so if I ever decide that I’d like to move to another blogging platform, I’m hoping that it will be pretty painless.

BTW… I’m also trying out Windows Live Writer (something that I could never use with DNN Blog’s lack of MetaBlog API Support) and so far I have to agree with what others have said. I like it!

So for now, I’m actually on Wordpress.com, but I’m looking at better hosted (and more flexible) Wordpress solutions. Site5.com looks like an interesting option. In the mean time, subscribe to my RSS so that no matter where I go, you should be able to find me. :)

(picture inserted just to try out Live Writer feature… ok, nothing more to see here, move along - but you do have to admit it… she’s cute! )
